Product Details Long life and large memory: This fish archival tag can store 1.4 million measurements in total and measures at a user defined interval, as fast as every second. Memory and battery life can last for 2.5 years if sampling at a 2 minute interval. The tag size is 39.4 mm x 13 mm, weighing 13 grams. The logger can be set to record with multiple intervals, shifting between different intervals during the measuring period. Application: The DST milli-TD data storage tag is designed as an economical fish archival tag for migration and dive behavioral studies of fish and marine animals over a long period of time. The tag can be implanted or attached externally. It can also be used as a standalone temperature depth logger in various situations. Depth sensors from shallow to deeper water: DST milli-TD tag can be calibrated up to 800 meters. Customers choose between depth calibration up to: 50 m, 100 m, 250 m, 500 m or 800 m. The shallower the range the better the resolution and accuracy. Fish implantation or external attachment: The logger is designed as an implantable tag and can be implanted in the abdominal cavity. It can also be attached externally on a fish or marine animal using a tag holder kit, ensuring easier and safer attachment. Customized text on housing: For tag and release of animals into the wild, the tags can have a customized text on the housing, for recapture purposes. It is important to have the return information when the tags are used on commercially fished species, so that fishermen can return a tag with valuable data to the scientist. Normally there is a reward for return of a tag. Spaghetti tag for spotting fish: When the DST logger is implanted in fish it is possible to have a yellow plastic tube, a spaghetti tag, attached to the DST. The tube sticks to the exterior of the fish, making it easier for fishermen to spot the tagged fish. Key Features Long life and large memory Depth sensors from shallow to deeper water Fish implantation or external attachment Tag holder kit ensuring easier and safer attachment Customized text on housing Using the logger Simple in Use, From Setup to Data Retrieval: The logger and the accompanying items are designed for ease of use throughout the research process, from setting up the logger, attaching it, to retrieving and analysing the data. The logger is supported by the SeaStar software and a Communication Box which have to be purchased with the first order. Programming the Logger: To set the logger for starting measurements it is placed into the Communication Box that connects with a USB cable to a PC computer. In the SeaStar software, the user sets the start time, start date and sampling interval before starting the tag for measuring. The tag synchronizes its internal clock with the date & time on the computer being used. Single or multiple intervals: There are two modes for sampling, either at a single interval throughout the period or multiple intervals. When choosing multiple intervals programming it is possible to define up to seven different intervals and number of measurements for each interval. Shifting between wide and narrow intervals can help in extending the measuring period due to memory limitation and have more frequent measurements during certain time periods, for example spawning periods. Memory and Battery Life Calculations: The software automatically calculates when memory fills based on certain interval settings, making it easier for the user to decide how to program the tag. Estimation on battery consumption during that time period is also calculated. Uploading the Data: After fish recapture, the tag is inserted into the communication box and the recorded data is uploaded to the software. The results are displayed both in graphic and tabular form and the data can be exported to other programs. The time series data shows each measurement with its own time stamp. Long battery life: After data retrieval the data storage tag can be re-used, as long as the batteries inside last. Battery life estimation is always reported upon connection with the tag. Due to the low energy consumption circuitry design the battery life can be several years, depending on usage and sampling interval used. Accessories Communication box: Serves as an interface between the DST and a PC computer. It is used for connecting to the DST, when starting the logger and retrieving data. DST is inserted into the hole of the box for wireless communications. SeaStar software: Software for Windows needed to operate the DST. Data is displayed in a graph and table. The time series data file can be opened in other programs. An installation product key is provided when ordering the software, for online downloading. Fish and Marine Animal Tag Holder Kits for External Tagging: Plate holder kit: Consists of wire fasteners, a plastic holder plate, a plastic plate on the opposite side of the DST, and silicon pads for external attachment on fish and other subjects. The plastic plates have smooth edges, specially designed for external attachment on animals. Silicone pads underneath give further comfort to the animal’s skin. Star-Oddi can provide needles, for threading wires through the fish. The plate holder kit is available for the centi and milli sized loggers. The plastic plate can also be purchased separately for use with various types of electronic tags. Capsule holder kit: A plastic capsule that has 2 mm holes on each end, ensuring water flow to the sensors. The kit comes with a wire harness, plastic plate and two silicone pads for placing under the capsule to prevent descaling and the plastic plate. The capsule holder kit is available for all logger sizes: centi, milli and micro. Floating Device for DST: The device comes in two sizes, 27mm x 10mm and 20mm x 7mm. They can be used both for internal and external tagging of fish and marine animals. For internal tagging the cylinders can be coated with biocompatible material. They can also be painted with bright colours for more visibility (non biocompatible).
